Journalist blogEach month we have been reaching out to journalists and media professionals to ask them about their experiences in the industry. For this month’s ‘Questions for Journalists’ we chatted with Sarah Pynoo, the Managing Editor of Calgary is Awesome.

What platform do you prefer to be pitched on?

I hate to say that I prefer email and add to the email deluge, but it really is the best way to get in touch and ensure that I read your pitch. If you address your email personally, have a lean pitch without too much narrative, and spell everything correctly you’ll definitely get a response.

What is your guilty media pleasure?

My guilty media pleasure is definitely watching trending topics on Twitter. I can tell myself it’s to follow breaking news and events, but the reality is that I’m just looking for viral videos of funny cats.

What advice do you have for PR professionals about working with journalists?

I think the most important thing to remember is that we both rely on each other. Being supportive and reliable while remaining respectful of a journalist’s time makes for a good working relationship, and will definitely encourage the journalist to reach out and use you as a resource.

Thanks, Sarah!
