Journalist blogAs part of a new blog series here at The Agency, we have been reaching out to journalists and media professionals to chat with them about their experiences in the industry. For our second post in the journalist series, we chatted with Nicole Fallon, Assistant Editor of Business News Daily and PR Daily contributor.

What is your guilty media pleasure?

I have so many. My top two at the moment are reading every single Buzzfeed listicle/quiz I see related to the ‘90s and early 2000s (I’ve been on a nostalgia kick), and finding hilariously bad animated kids’ movies to watch on Netflix. My “Recommended” list is totally absurd right now.

If you could only write about one thing for the rest of your career, what would it be?

Food, for sure. I actually minored in food studies, and my first job out of college was running a food and cooking website. I’m obsessed with finding new places to eat, discovering healthy recipe hacks, and exploring different ways to combine ingredients. My favorite thing to do is try to recreate healthier versions of restaurant dishes, like Chipotle’s burrito bowls (I actually posted the recipe on my blog, Razzle Frazzle).

What advice do you have for PR professionals about working with journalists?

The most important thing to remember is to be flexible. We’re not always going to be able to cover your client using the exact pitch you sent us. We have our own deadlines and editorial calendars we’re working with, so if we see a different fit for your client than the one you proposed, try to trust our judgment. I know it’s tough when your clients are excited about telling their story a certain way, but any opportunity to get a press mention is a good one!

Thank you, Nicole!
